I-44/Turner Turnpike at Wellston

County Rd. 3340 closes in Wellston as part of ongoing bridge work at I-44/Turner Turnpike and SH-66

County Road 3340 will be closed between SH-66 in Wellston and County Rd. 930 today through July 8 as part of ongoing construction work to prepare this area for a local detour route ahead of an expected year-long closure of SH-66. Motorists may use County Rd. 930 to County Rd. 3330 to access SH-66 during this closure.

The reconstruction of the I-44/Turner Turnpike bridge over SH-66 will require the nearly year-long closure of SH-66 between US-177 and SH-102 in Wellston. Crews began this spring with the reconstruction of County Rd. 930 as it will serve as part of the locally signed detour during the closure. The larger closure of SH-66 is expected to occur later in summer 2024, weather permitting.

T-MC-131 – Active Construction

An eastbound and westbound I-44/Turner Turnpike bridge over SH-66 (mm 158) in Wellston will be reconstructed to accommodate six lanes in the future as part of an overall corridor widening plan. The nearly $48 million project was awarded to Sherwood Construction Co. Inc. of Tulsa and features wider shoulders, ramp improvements including a new westbound off-ramp configuration, upgraded safety features and room for an additional future lane. Additionally, the nearby commuter parking lot will be moved and reconstructed. The 1-mile-long project also will impact SH-66 in Wellston between US-177 and SH-102 with an up to one-year-long closure where the temporary detour intersects it. Once construction is complete, SH-66 will have sidewalks and be constructed to accommodate future widening of the state highway to four lanes.
